1. PRODUCT INFORMATION:
-----------------------

X-Scope (X-Ray Service Control OPerating Environment) is a software
application supplying functions to support the service engineer in
servicing PMS X-Ray equipment on location or remote via a modem link.

WARNING: Be sure that your pc meets the minimum system requirements
as described on the installation card. If it does not, the
behaviour and/or performance of X-Scope can not be
          guaranteed.

X-Scope is delivered on two floppies in combination with an
installation card. All user documentation is electronic and available
at run-time by means of the X-Scope help facility. No separate
manuals are available or required.

2. TIPS FOR INSTALLING X-SCOPE:
-------------------------------

- It is recommended to close all running applications (especially
those that are running in a Dos box) before you start the
installation. Reason for this is that when you are installing
X-Scope and you run into problems, other running applications may
be closed incorrectly! This may cause problems when you try to
  restart these applications afterwards.

- When you receive a new X-Scope release, it is recommended to
replace the older release and install the new release in the same
directory as the existing X-Scope release. In this way you are
assured of the best performance. Problems with earlier releases
could be resolved, new functions can be added, etc.
X-Scope 1.4.2 is able to service all (X-Scope based) systems, no
exception on this needs to be made for Bucky 1.5 systems.

- If you are upgrading your X-Scope release 1.3 (or lower), by
overwriting and using the existing X-Scope directory, the setup
program will create a new program group called X-Scope 1.4 with
associated program icons. The old program group "X-Scope" with
  program icons can be deleted.

- For the X-Scope installation procedure follow the instructions on
  the Installation Card.

- It is advised to delete all files and directories belonging to the
previous X-Scope release in order to free harddisk space.

- If you are installing X-Scope under "Windows 95", an additional
setting is required to run "Power-on Monitoring" (PoM) mode
  without problems.

  Procedure:
  . Start X-Scope
. Select "Faultfind" and start "Power-on Monitoring"
. When the PoM window comes up in background, use Alt-Tab to
          get it in foreground.
. Click the MSDOS icon in the header. If the header is not
available because the window came up in full screen, use
Alt-Enter to see the MSDOS icon.
  . Select "properties"
. Activate the "close on exit" box
. Leave the window via OK

- If you want to run X-Scope 1.4.2 under Windows NT and you will be
using the Hardware Protection Key, an extra device driver to
access the key is needed. The latest version of this device driver
  can be obtained from:

  F. Brouckaert
  DSS Lead Office
  PMSN Best
  tel. +31-40-2763420

The device drivers will also be distributed via the 'Customer
  Support Software' CD Rom.

3. TIPS FOR USAGE OF X-SCOPE:
-----------------------------

a. General:

- X-Scope can be started by double clicking on the X-Scope icon.

- In case X-Scope is started via the Navigator program, the /r or /i
option and path for the Navigator modem definition file are
applied automatically. For more info about remote connections
please refer to "Possible connections" in the X-Scope Help file.

- If you are using X-Scope for the first time, select the "Setup"
menu (which is accessible from the main window menu bar) and
  program your personal required "Settings".

- If you want to have X-Scope automatically started when you
start-up MS-Windows, consider including the X-Scope icon in the
  StartUp program group.

- When the performance of X-Scope is not satisfactory or leads to
communication errors, refer to "Performance improvements" of the
  X-Scope help.

b. Prevention of errors:

- When using X-Scope, do not run DOS applications at the same time!
If one does, this may result into communication errors and
possibly into fatal errors. In this situation the behaviour and/or
performance of X-Scope can not be guaranteed. Starting X-Scope
from within Navigator will not cause any problems, because
Navigator will remove itself from memory.

- Be careful in using a lot of Windows applications in parallel with
X-Scope. Because other applications require memory and possibly
also communication ports, X-Scope might generate errors of which
XVT errors may be the most common ones (XVT is the graphics kernel
  within X-Scope).

- During Software Loading "never" remove the floppy from the drive,
unless you are questioned to insert the next floppy or the loading
process is finished. If Software Loading is cancelled, the system
will not startup anymore after a general reset.

c. Communication:

- Depending on the UART present in your PC an optimal baudrate must
be set. UART's which have buffering (e.g. type: 16550) allow
higher communication performance than UART's without buffering
(e.g. type: 8250). Mind that the buffering feature must be
enabled. For details on this setting see your Windows (Windows 95
/ Windows NT) user guide. In most situations, a baudrate of 19k2
bps should not be a problem.

- In general, a too high baudrate can result in a lower
communication performance. Set the maximum baudrate to a value
  suitable for your PC's hardware/software.

- If your PC configuration allows (and is set to) a high baudrate,
this will not cause problems in the system you are connected to.
The actual communication speed is determined/limited by the
systems itself. Max. recommended X-Scope baudrate using a Remote
Switch in connection with the Telebit Worldblazer modem is
19,200bps. No guarantees can be made for performance above
14,400bps as this is the CCITT standard V32.bis maximum baudrate.
Therefore it is advised not to exceed the max. modem to modem
  speed of 14,400bps.

- The baudrate setting by X-Scope in connection with the Telebit
Worldblazer modem is internally limited to 38k4 bps. This does not
apply for remote service using hayes-modems.

- Operating X-Scope directly with a Remote Switch will not work if
  in the Setup-Default-Settings-Hardware Handshake 'RTS/CTS DSR/DTR
CD' is selected. This has to be set to either 'RTS/CTS' or 'No'.

d. Software loading:

- It is recommended to verify all floppies (with e.g. DOS Scandisk
utility or a virus checker) before a Load Software procedure is
started. If a floppy is damaged, the Load software download can
not be completed. This may leave the system in a non-operational
situation. It is not possible to return to the old software as it
was installed. Only by performing a new Load Software procedure
(with correct floppies), the software can be (re-)installed
  correctly.

If a Disk verification tool is not available, it is suggested to
verify the floppy with the following command: "copy a:\*.* nul"
(all files on the floppy will be read). If problems occur arrange
  correct floppies.

5. RELEASE NOTES:
-----------------

In this chapter you will find information on X-Scope 1.4.2 about:
- general aspects
- new and/or improved functionality
- known problems

a. General aspects:

This X-Scope package is supposed to run on a service P.C. and is
therefore called the STM (Service Terminal Module).

- "Compatibility". Different X-Scope Releases for STM's as well as
for the X-Scope release on which the Target service functionality
is based, will exist. It is therefore noted that the X-Scope STM
release has to be of an equal or higher release than the X-Scope
release on which the Target software is based. When your X-Scope
STM is of a lower release you may either run into problems or have
  a limited functionality.

You are therefore advised to upgrade your X-Scope STM release to
the minimum required level which is determined by the Target.
For information on the minimum required X-Scope STM release see
  Target documentation.

- The user interface of the "Power-on Monitoring" function (PoM)
"looks" like a VT100 terminal emulation window. However, it has a
different functionality. Do not use this VT100 like function for
  other applications.

b. New and/or improved functionality release 1.2->1.3:

- X-Scope release 1.3.1 provides the same functionality as release
1.2.1 plus support of remote service via a modem connection set up
by the Navigator program. It supports all X-Scope functions from a
remote service terminal including VT100 and POM. However some
functions may be restricted to "local" use only by the service
  software.

- Improved communication reliability in remote service as well as
  for local communication.

- Added indication of communication status messages on communication
  status line.

- Lost cable connection on the RS-232 port will result in a retry
loop until the cable is plugged in again.

c. New and/or improved functionality release 1.3->1.4.1:

- New 'copy' function to copy target data to the PC. With the
'program automatic' function this data can be written back to the
  target.

- During software loading the progress indicator also shows the
number of files to be loaded.

- Abortion of software loading will now be indicated by X-Scope as
  'Software loading aborted'.

- Communication with Remote Switches type 2 (also known as
  'Interspeeder').

d. New and/or improved functionality release 1.4.1->1.4.2:

- Direct Remote communication with Hayes compatible modems (without
switch). Refer also to 'Possible Target Connections' in the X-
  Scope help.

- New function 'Application Monitoring' under menu item 'Faultfind'.

- Compatibility fix with older Bucky systems (before Bucky 2.1). Now
all Bucky systems can be serviced using X-Scope 1.4.2.

- Able to run under Windows NT.

- Compatible with Navigator 1.5.

e. Known problems:

- It is possible, that X-Scope does not display its function windows
properly. In this case the Windows display driver has been set to
using large fonts. This setting should then be changed to using
  small fonts.

- When using Navigator to launch X-Scope, the X-Scope pathname
length should be restricted to the maximum allowed path length in
the Navigator program, it should not exceed 40 characters.

- There is a minimal chance, that a fatal error might be caused by
pressing cancel during the starting of the Full Adjustment stage
window. In this case X-Scope has to be restarted again. In
practice it is unlikely to be a real problem.

- If you want to use X-Scope 1.4.2 under Windows NT, the default
handshake setting must be set to 'RTS/CTS' or 'No'.

- If you connect the STM directly to a remote switch, the default
handshake setting must be set to 'RTS/CTS' or 'No'. Refer also to
'Possible Connections to a Target' in the X-Scope help file.

- After changing an dependent value (e.g. in Program Manual) and
straightafter quickly opening the drop-down list of an enumerated
or boolean parameter and selecting another value may result in a
case that the new value is ignored and the parameter is switched
back to the old value. This only applies to slow targets.

6. REMOVING X-SCOPE FROM YOUR COMPUTER:
---------------------------------------

As this X-Scope release does not contain an UNINSTALL program, to
delete the partial or complete X-Scope software from your computer,
next follows an overview of files that need to be removed manually
from your pc.

The X-Scope release 1.4.2 software package consists of the four
following typesof files:

Type 1: Basic X-Scope STM software (in c:\xsst14, or user defined
          directory)
Type 2: Program Group in Windows (in c:\windows\.. directory)
Type 3: Target application files (in c:\xsst14\applic, or user
          defined directory)
Type 4: Data files (in c:\xsfiles, or user defined directory)

Two typical situations can be discerned:

1 You have problems with your X-Scope STM software and you want to
  install it again!

In this situation delete all files of type 1 and 2:

-> X-Scope and Readme icons (under Windows).
-> X-Scope Program Group (under Windows).
-> All basic X-Scope STM software files (c:\xsst14\*.*, or
          user defined).

Note that all files of type 3 and 4 should not be deleted.

2 You want to remove the complete X-Scope STM software package from
  your service pc!

In this situation delete all files of type 1, 2, 3 and 4:

-> All "type 1 and 2" files as specified under situation -1-.
-> The xscope directory, all sub-directories and associated
files (c:\xsst13, c:\xsst14\applic, or user defined)
-> The xsfiles directory, all sub-directories and associated
          files (c:\xsfiles, c:\xsfiles\logging, c:\xsfiles\progaut,
          or user defined)
-> The possibly existing c:\xspom.log file.
